Controls Any Dimmable 120V Bulb

The Ube Smart Dimmer handles common incandescent, fluorescent or LED light bulbs. If your bulb is designed to be dimmed, we can dim it.

Measure Your Electricity Usage

We've built sub-metering technology into each Ube Smart Dimmer. Sub metering is a tiny electric meter inside your switch. This means that we can accurately measure how much electricity is being used by each light switch. Ever want to know how much does it costs to leave your lights on all day? Or how much money you’d save save if you dimmed my lights to 90%? The Ube Smart Dimmer measures this.

Get Alerts When a Bulb Burns Out

And because the dimmer knows how much energy is being used, it can even detect when a light bulb has gone out and send you a push notification to replace it.

Yes, you can set the outlets to turn on or off multiple times per day.

Can you control higher load devices like AC units, water heaters and more?

The Ube dimmer is designed to control lights only.

Do you have an accessory dimmer or slave dimmer for 3-way switch legs?

An accessory dimmer is planned for early 2014.

Are the switch panels backlit so I can find them in a dark hallway?

Yes, an invisible infra red detector will sense when you walk near to the light and activate a soft backlight for the dimmers so you can easily see the switch.

What kind of lights do you dim?

The Ube dimmer works with incandescent lights, dimmable LEDs and dimmable CFL lights.

Will it dim a fan?

No, it will not slow a fan.  However, it can be set to switch mode so you can use it to turn on and off the fan.

Will it act as a switch for non-dimmable bulbs

Yes.  The dimmer can be set to act as a switch for this purpose.

Can it work in a multi-way (2-way, 3-way etc) switch leg?

Yes.  You will need one dimmer for each switch location in a multi-way switch leg.

Does it require a connection to the ube Cloud to operate?

No.  The dimmer will dim lights and turn them on and off without a connection to any cloud service.

What if my internet goes down

The Ube dimmer will continue to function normally within the house even if your internet is down.  However, if your internet is down, you will not be able to get certain reporting functions nor will you be able to control the lights from outside your home.

What if my WiFi goes down

You can still control the lights from the dimmer.  However, you will not be able to use the Ube app if your WiFi is down.

Can this work with my existing home automation platform?

We will publish an API for controlling the Ube dimmer from other programmable control systems.

Can you control multiple devices from one switch?

Each Ube dimmer is designed to connect to one light load and can control just that light.  However, each Ube dimmer is also a control for all other Ube dimmers.  This allows you to turn on and off multiple lights from one dimmer.

Will this work in 2-wire and 3-wire homes?

Yes.

What if my dimmable LEDs flicker when they are dimmed low?

The Ube dimmer allows you to set the lower dimming level for any dimmer.  To do this, you dim the lights until they start to flicker.  They raise them slightly and set this level as the lower dimming level using the Ube smartphone app.

What WiFi security is supported?

We support all common Wi-Fi security protocols including WEP, WPA and WPA2.

How accurate are the power measurements?

The power meter employed is 97+% accurate.  It is designed to tell you if you are using more or less energy this month, or to tell you which rooms are using more electricity.

How can I clean this product? What if my kids have messy hands?

A simple damp cloth can wipe away smudges on the face of the multi-touch user interface.

How do you connect the dimmers to your wifi network?

During setup of your first Ube dimmer, you will need to join the Ube Wi-Fi network.  You must provide the SSID and password to your home network one time in the Ube app.  When you install subsequent dimmers, the SSID and password information is passed automatically from one dimmer to the next.
